Behind Every Headline, There’s a Human Story: Supporting Worthing 4 Refugees
In spring 2025, Priavo Security supported Worthing 4 Refugees by sponsoring food for a special Ukrainian Refugee Impact Event — an evening dedicated to reflection, recognition, and community.
The event marked the conclusion of an extraordinary chapter of local collaboration that began in 2022, when a wave of Ukrainian families arrived in Worthing seeking safety from war. They came not by choice, but out of necessity — displaced, disoriented, and uncertain about the future. What followed was a remarkable example of humanity in action.
Worthing 4 Refugees, alongside Community Works, the Adur Ukraine Support Association, and Adur & Worthing Council, formed a dedicated Ukraine Support Group. Together, they built a network that reached far beyond emergency response, providing practical help, emotional support and a pathway to independence for displaced families.
At the heart of this initiative was a Ukrainian lawyer who, after fleeing her home, rebuilt her life from scratch in the UK. She moved into sponsored housing, took a local job to gain independence, and found stability for her children — all while her husband remained on the front lines of war. Her strength and empathy became the driving force of the support project, and her leadership transformed how the community responded to refugees’ needs.
Over two years, the project connected with more than 30 organisations across Sussex, including schools, churches, mental health services, employers, and cultural groups. This collective effort created a sustainable model of care — one built on collaboration, not hierarchy; on humanity, not policy.
Now that funding for the initiative is set to close as planned, its impact remains visible. Families once dependent on temporary housing have settled into homes. Children who arrived with limited English are thriving in local schools. Volunteers have become lifelong friends to those they once supported.
The event served as both a celebration and a reflection — a reminder that behind every headline about displacement, there are human stories of resilience, adaptation, and courage.
In a global climate where conflict, division and anti-immigration rhetoric continue to dominate, Worthing’s local response stands as proof that compassion still leads to progress. The project’s success shows that when newcomers are met with dignity, empathy, and practical support, communities grow stronger together.
Summary:
Priavo’s support for Worthing 4 Refugees in 2025 was a small but meaningful contribution to an event that highlighted courage, connection and community spirit. The partnership reflects a shared belief that real security begins with stability, belonging and compassion — values that transform lives and strengthen communities.
