Education, Empathy, and the Oscar Romero Group and Pollinator Pioneers
By 2024, our partnership with Pollinator Pioneers had developed into something quietly powerful — a long-term collaboration focused on connection and community learning.
That year, we sponsored another Meet the Bees session, this time for the Oscar Romero Group, a local school supporting personal growth through service and education. For many of the group’s young members, the visit was a chance to step outside the classroom and into a completely different world.
The session began cautiously, with nervous laughter and a few hesitant steps toward the hives. But as the Pollinator Pioneers team explained the structure of a colony and the vital role each bee plays, something shifted. Curiosity overcame fear. Soon, the students were leaning in to watch worker bees fan the hive entrance, listening intently as they learned about bee communication through “waggle dances.”
We also made a separate donation to support the Oscar Romero Group’s youth programmes. For us, the link between these two initiatives felt natural: both empower young people to learn, lead, and engage with the world around them.
By the end of the session, one student summed it up perfectly: “They all have a job. They just get on with it.” That simple observation captured the essence of teamwork and purpose — and perhaps a lesson we could all take away.
Summary:
Our 2024 collaboration reminded us that learning doesn’t always happen in classrooms — sometimes it happens standing under the open sky, surrounded by the steady hum of bees. Through empathy and education, Pollinator Pioneers and the young people they inspire continue to create real, lasting impact.
