Freya, the Bees, and the Next Generation of Volunteers
By 2025, our work with Pollinator Pioneers had come full circle — from sponsoring a hive to supporting the next generation of environmental champions.
This year, we sponsored Freya, a young volunteer completing her Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) award through Pollinator Pioneers. Over several months, Freya worked alongside the charity team, helping maintain hives, running educational activities, and assisting at community events.
Through her DofE journey, she learned everything from bee biology to teamwork and communication — often under the hum of a busy hive. Her enthusiasm was infectious. When asked what she loved most, she said, “It feels good to be trusted with something that matters.”
For Pollinator Pioneers, volunteers like Freya are the lifeblood of their mission. They bring new energy and ideas and ensure that the message of sustainability continues long after each project ends. For us, sponsoring her journey was a privilege — a way to support both personal development and environmental stewardship in one.
It’s easy to talk about “the next generation,” but seeing it in action is something else entirely. Freya’s dedication and passion were reminders of why long-term partnerships like this matter: because real change grows slowly, season by season, person by person.
Summary:
2025 was all about legacy. From HoneyBun to Freya, our journey with Pollinator Pioneers has shown that the smallest actions — whether buzzing, planting or volunteering — can build something that lasts far beyond the moment.
