HoneyBun and the Beginning of Something Sweet
Our relationship with Pollinator Pioneers began in 2021, when our Co-founder and MD, Celine Murphy, took over as a director of this CIC charity. It started with one hive — and one name: HoneyBun.
At the time, we were looking for a community project that combined sustainability, education and wellbeing. When we met the Pollinator Pioneers team, their mission instantly clicked with us. This small local charity works to protect bees and other pollinating insects through conservation, outreach and education. Their work is hands-on and heartfelt — creating spaces where both bees and people can thrive together.
So, we decided to sponsor a hive and support their growing apiary. It was our first foray into beekeeping — or rather, into supporting those who know how to do it properly. The hive was soon christened “HoneyBun,” a lighthearted name chosen by the children who volunteer within the charity.
Visiting the apiary for the first time, we saw the hive alive with motion — thousands of bees moving in perfect coordination, each performing their role within the colony. The Pollinator Pioneers team talked us through how pollinators are responsible for around one in every three bites of food we eat, and how vital these small creatures are to our ecosystems.
We left that day with more than admiration for bees — we left with a renewed awareness of how interconnected everything is. Sponsoring HoneyBun wasn’t just a financial gesture; it was an invitation into a world of dedicated conservation.
Summary:
HoneyBun marked the start of our journey with Pollinator Pioneers — a small act that opened our eyes to the vast and essential world of pollinators. It reminded us that even the smallest partnerships can grow into something meaningful when you lead with curiosity and care.
