Travel Risk Report: Brazil

Brazil is a vibrant and lively country, however, it does suffer from high levels of crime in areas, particularly in major cities. There can be a number of security risks you may want to consider. Protests take place regularly, often without warning in Brazilian cities including Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Brasilia and Belo Horizonte, where there have been violent incidents and injuries involving travellers.

Recently there have been growing concerns about the developing outbreak of yellow fever. On the 20th March 17, the World Health Organization (WHO)  recommended travellers have yellow fever vaccinations before travelling to Brazil. Since Jan 17 the transmission of yellow fever within Brazil has continued to expand and is now spreading within areas previously considered low risk, with a total of 404 cases including 84 deaths. Confirmed cases have been reported in Rio de Janeiro State, with cases under investigation in São Paulo State.
