Travel Risk Report [UAE]

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is generally safe. The main concern to foreign travellers is the country’s conservative Islamic governance and judicial system which imposes significant restrictions on visitors. These restrictions are particularly relevant to female and LGBT travellers who could face both legal and societal recriminations for transgressing local laws and cultural norms.

A further breakdown on security risks are provided below.

Crime | Although the occurrence of violent crime is rare, petty crime is likely to take place in urban centers such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Violent crime has been known to occur, particular targeting female travellers in remote areas.

Medical Services | The quality and accessibility of Medical services within the UAE is adequate. English is widely understood in urban areas and spoken within Emergency Services. Due to the availability of private medical facilities, the quality of medical health care, particularly in major cities, is adequate.

Civil Unrest | The prevalence of civil unrest and Violence in the UAE is Negligable. Demonstrations are illegal and those that do occur on occasion are quickly brought to an end by security forces.

Terrorism | A threat of terrorism is present in the UAE. Due to the country’s links with Western interests and its location in the Gulf region, it is a target to many Islamist extremists. Despite the fact that there haven’t been any recent terrorist attacks, the possibility of an incident occurring cannot be discounted.

Kidnapping and Conflict | Currently, the risks of kidnappings occurring is negligible.
